In this study, R(+)‐α‐methylbenzylamine‐modified magnetic chiral sorbent was synthesized and assessed as a new enantioselective solid phase sorbent for separation of mandelic acid enantiomers from aqueous solutions. The chemical structures and magnetic properties of the new sorbent were characterized by vibrating sample magnetometry, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and dynamic light scattering. The effects of different variables such as the initial concentration of racemic mandelic acid, dosage of sorbent, and contact time upon sorption characteristics of mandelic acid enantiomers on magnetic chiral sorbent were investigated. The sorption of mandelic acid enantiomers followed a pseudo‐second‐order reaction and equilibrium experiments were well fitted to a Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacity of racemic mandelic acid on to the magnetic chiral sorbent was found to be 405 mg g?1. The magnetic chiral sorbent has a greater affinity for (S)‐(+)‐mandelic acid compared to (R)‐(?)‐mandelic acid. The optimum resolution was achieved with 10 mL 30 mM of racemic mandelic acid and 110 mg of magnetic chiral sorbent. This investigation aimed to develop nimesulide (NMS)-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-based nanoparticulate formulations as a biodegradable polymeric drug carrier to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared with two different nonionic surfactants, vitamin E d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (vitamin E TPGS) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), using an ultrasonication solvent evaporation technique. Nine batches were formulated for each surfactant using a 32 factorial design for optimal concentration of the emulsifying agents, 0.03–0.09% for vitamin E TPGS and 2–4% for PVA. The surfactant percentage and the drug/polymer ratio (1:10, 1:15, 1:20) of the NMS-loaded NPs were investigated based on four responses: encapsulation efficiency, particle size, the polydispersity index, and the surface charge. The response surface plots and linearity curves indicated a relationship between the experiment’s responses and a set of independent variables. The NPs produced with both surfactants exhibited a negative surface charge, and scanning electron micrographs revealed that all of the NPs were spherical in shape. A narrower size distribution and higher drug loadings were achieved in PVA-emulsified PLGA NPs than in the vitamin E TPGS emulsified. Decreasing amounts of both nonionic surfactants resulted in a reduction in the emulsion’s viscosity, which led to a decrease in the particle size of NPs. According to the ANOVA results obtained in this present research, vitamin E TPGS exhibited the best correlation between the independent variables, namely drug/polymer ratio and the surfactant percentage, and the dependent variables (encapsulation efficiency R2 = 0.9603, particle size R2 = 0.9965, size distribution R2 = 0.9899, and surface charge R2 = 0.8969) compared with PVA.KEY WORDS: ANOVA, factorial design, nanoparticles, nimesulide, PLGA, PVA, vitamin E TPGS  相似文献

Ischemia and reperfusion injury of the skeletal muscle is a common and serious condition observed in patients admitting to peripheral vascular surgery, interventional radiology and cardiology departments. Resveratrol (RVT) being a strong natural antioxidant is found in deal of red wine and Mediterranean diet. In the present study, male Spraque-Dawley rats were randomized into two groups of equal size. The first group was the control group, and these rats were administered with tap water with a gastric tube for fourteen consecutive days once daily. According to the same protocol, the rats in the second group were treated with tap water containing 20 mg/kg RVT. All the rats in the two groups were subjected to acute hind limb ischemia through clamping of the abdominal aorta for 120 min. Following this procedure, 60 minutes of reperfusion was applied by reestablishing blood flow in both iliac arteries. Ischemic damage in the skeletal muscle tissue was assessed by measuring myoglobin, lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine phosphokinase, aspartate transaminase enzymes in venous blood samples obtained at the end of the reperfusion period. Oxidative stress caused by reperfusion was determined by measuring MDA, carbonyl and protein sulphydryl levels in quadriceps muscle tissue retrieved at the end of the experiment. In Group II rats, all the measured ischemic enzymes and the markers of oxidative stress reflected robust anti-ischemic properties obtained by RVT administration. The data from both groups revealed statistically significant protection against acute skeletal muscle ischemia and reperfusion injury in Group II rats, compared to Group I. As a major dietary flavonoid RVT can protect the skeletal muscle tissue against global ischemia and reperfusion injury because of its strong antioxidant and cytoprotective properties.  相似文献

Summary Orchid bees (Euglossini) provide a potentially informative contrast for examining origins of advanced social behaviour in bees because they are the only tribe in the apine clade that do not form large colonies or have queens and workers. We investigated natural nests of Euglossa hyacinthina Dressler, an orchid bee that nests singly or in groups. By comparing the two types of nests, we examined if individuals in a group merely share the nest (are communal) or exhibit a level of social organization where there is reproductive division of labour among the females. Observations are consistent with communal nesting, indicating that all females in group nests are reproductively similar to the solitary nesting females because the provisioning of young, as well as the ovary development and mating status of females sharing nests were not different than that of solitary-nesting females. Also, multiple female nests did not produce a female-biased brood as predicted for nests with reproductive division of labour. We also investigated potential advantages of group nesting vs. individual nesting. We demonstrate that per capita offspring production is lower in nests with more than one female. However, we found that nests with single females were left unattended for longer periods of time during foraging, and that there was a high incidence of natural enemy attack in nests when females were absent. Honey bee [Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae)] genetic diversity may be the key to responding to novel health challenges faced by this important pollinator. In this study, we first compared colonies of four honey bee races, A. m. anatoliaca, A. mcarnica, A. m. caucasica, and A. msyriaca from Turkey, with respect to honey storage, bee population size, and defenses against varroa. The mite Varroa destructor Anderson & Trueman (Acari: Varroidae) is an important pest of honey bee colonies. There are genetic correlates with two main defenses of bees against this parasite: hygienic behavior, or removing infested brood, and grooming, which involves shaking and swiping off mites and biting them. In the second part of this study, we examined the relationship of these two types of defenses, hygiene and grooming, and their correlation with infestation rates in 32 genetically diverse colonies in a ‘common garden’ apiary. Mite biting was found to be negatively correlated with mite infestation levels.  相似文献

Two populations of Paeonia turcica, including one in the type locality, and two populations of P. kesrouanensis were sampled and observed, in addition to examination of a large number of herbarium specimens. As a result of extensive comparison, we found that there are no distinct differences between P. turcica and P. kesrouanensis, and thus P. turcica is treated as a synonym of the latter. The relationships of P. kesrouanensis with its allies are discussed.  相似文献
